Nora Helmer is a housewife and mother of three children. She has been married to Torvald for a total of 8 years. Mrs. Helmer has a plethora of nicknames appointed to her by her husband such as: skylark, songbird, and squirrel. Appearing to be innocent and unaware of how the real world works in the beginning, Nora reveals that she knows more than she's letting on as the play unfolds.

Torvald Helmer is a lawyer who has recently been employed to work for the bank. He cares a great deal about his wife Nora, but he does not love her as his equal counterpart. Rather, he treats Nora as his little pet that must be shielded from the harsh world. Torvald cares a great deal about appearances and his place in society. As soon as that is threatened, Nora sees the ugly truth she's been suspecting all along.
nils krogstad
Nils
Nils Krogstad attended school with Mr. Helmer many years ago and is also an employee at the bank. He loaned money to Nora without her husband's knowledge when she came to him in dire straights. Now that Mr. Krogstad's job is at stake, he is threatening to divulge Mrs. Helmer's secret unless she convinces her husband not to fire him. Once he finds companionship and someone who willing to help him out of the mess he's created, Nils begins to show a more forgiving side of himself.

Kristine Linde, a calm and sensible woman, is an old friend of Nora's that she hasn't seen in several years. Mrs. Linde is a widow with nothing left and is on the search for a new purpose in life. She has come to visit the Helmer's in hopes of getting a job at the bank in order to fulfill her desire to work again. After learning of Nora's troubling circumstance, Kristine imparts wisdom and she serves as a moral compass as Nora attempts to devise a plan to abolish her debt.

Dr. Rank
Dr. Rank is a dear friend and confidant to Torvald and Nora Helmer. Secretly in love with Nora, Dr. Rank frequents the Helmer household in an attempt to be near her. Indifferent to the opinions of others concerning his well-being, Dr. Rank accepts his imminent death is just a fact of life.

Anne Marie, caregiver of the Helmer children and once Nora herself, tries to convince Nora that despite any perils she may be enduring, that children need the love and attention of their mother and can adapt to or overcome any circumstance.
